MODULAR COURSES ON MODERN SENSORS

Sensors are one of the key elements in modern systems, as they determine the quality of the information that is acquired from real life and is used for control and decision making. Sensors are vital part of most industrial, transportation and defence instruments; their role in environmental and health systems and even home appliances is fast increasing. The sensor global market is fast growing and the innovation rate is extremely high. Innovative sensors working on new principles and/or using new materials and technologies are more precise, faster, smaller, lower power and cheaper. European companies have sometimes rather conservative attitude towards new sensors: reliability of traditional types is preferred against risk of innovation.
In order to be competitive, it is vitally important for European industrial community to improve the knowledge about the principles and properties of the new sensors. This type of information is very difficult to acquire from existing sources especially for teachers and trainers in vocational educational institutions, for people in SMEs and certainly for people entering or re-entering the job market.
Language problem is one of the European obstacles: e.g. engineers at Skoda Auto should know the technical terms in English (language of technical literature), German (to be able to communicate with development staff and managers in mother company (Volkswagen) and certainly Czech (native language used for communication with workers and colleagues). Multi-lingual courses may be a logical response to this obstacle in effective human resource management.
