Build up

The project approaches the problem of recruitment to technician training for the construction industry. In the partner countries, there is a major labour market and skills gap in the construction industry, which is a sector which could provide many jobs for unemployed and disadvantaged youth and is of vital economic importance. This labour skills shortage is particularly acute at technician level.

The project partnership has first conducted a web-based study on how both boys and girls from diverse ethnic backgrounds can be attracted into training as architectural technicians, surveyors and site managers. This has been done with the assistance of employers and other agencies dealing with young people, such as youth and careers services.

Secondly, the partnership has designed an orientation/training module for these jobs to include key skills, work-based training and management and co-ordination skills, and support, guidance and information on career paths.
